Calgary Firefighters came apon a horrible scene when they arrived at a housefire in Monterey Park N.E. late Friday afternoon. They were able to knock down the blaze in short order, but heavy smoke took the lives of a number of animals. Eighteen cats and ten dogs were in the home at the time of the outbreak - sixteen cats and three dogs perished. Two adults were evacuated from the home - one female was hospitalized suffering smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire, unknown at this point.
