NO SALUTE FOR THE " PEACE BRIDGE"

Posted 7/28/2009 12:44:00 AM
Sorry,  but I won't be saluting the Peace Bridge. Tell me if I'm right or wrong on this one.
It's dedication to our Canadian War dead is inspired by cheap politics, not respect, nor honour, in my opinion.

One alderman ran the over priced footpath up the flag pole as a new, artsy-fartsy tourist attraction.

Another aldermen never heard until City Councils' name the bridge meeting, that it was ever intended to be dedicated to our fallen troops.

The Mayor says this was the intention from day one. So I guess those alderman are just telling fibs for the fun of it, or out of the loop, or missed the here's the adminstration company line memo.

Whose telling the truth? Or as many suspect was this dedication
conjoured up at the last minute to deflect the ground swell of citizen
outrage over the cost, ...

Recycling Ripoff?

Well that didn't take long! We will have to do a report first to see if the city is ripping off it's army of blue boxers or if lazy citizens who toss recycling coin of the realm ( read refundables) away, continue to fill the city coffers with a curbside windfall.

That's if the Blue Box Bandits don't grab the cities stash first.

What's a mayor to do? All this recycling ranting the very week of the Dave Bronconnier photo op delivering the last of the Blue Boxes to Northeast Calgary homes. ( Good Morning citizen, here's your blue box whether you want it or not, that will be 8 dollars please...)

So in the meantime the City will continue to encourage you to recycle, reduce and reuse, but refuse to tell you exactly what the deal is.

  The word ...

Walk this way, Talk this way...

Maybe Alberta Culture Minister Lindsay Blackett and Education Minister Dave Hancock could team up to do a video rendition of the Aerosmith hit to explain Bill 44? Kids could watch it class, that is unless one of their parents found it a violation of their sexual, religious or evolutionary beliefs.

But first teachers would have to preview the new Blackett-Hancock Walk this way, Talk this way video to make sure that didn't happen, because they would be the hook for showing it, with the Human Rights Commission.

My tongue in cheek prediction of what the Ablerta government might do, or not do next, would be funny, if it wasn't such a sad state of affairs

Hopefully a video explaining Bill 44, wouldn't cost as much as our new provincial slogan.
