Children of the Klondike

Posted 7/27/2010 6:00:00 PM
It took around 15 years for Frances Backhouse to get back to the Klondike.  Her original book 'Women of the Klondike' brought to life some of memorable 'females' of the time.   Now, Children of the Klondike sifts through the stories of the unsung population of the north.

The stories that Frances brings to life are touching and tragic.  There is happiness, bitterness,  rapprochement and redemption.  Above all there is an underlying current of respect for the subject and you will not walk away without feeling something.

Backhouse makes both books ring with authenticity and as a result it's almost disappointing to realize she may very well have written her last volume on the Klondike.

One Child

The occasion is rare.  Being at the point where something new is happening.   Something that will shape experience going forward.  Call it 'the day everything changed'.  That would be this day, July 27, 2010...the day the book 'One Child' started to roll out.  I say started, because the physical book won't hit the shelves until late August.  Today the 'experience' of the book is launched.  It is delivered to you, and it comes to life via all aspects of the communications medium.  It's the web, it's social media...it's audio, it's visual.  It is a feast for the senses and a challenge to the mind.

It is also the first book of it's kind, and author Jeff Buck, and media maven Kevin Franco took time on 'Day One' to talk about this book 'first'

The Book of Awesome

All good books start somewhere.  Neil Pasricha's started under the covers of his bed when he was a kid.  He liked to read.  He still does.  He also likes to write.

Several years ago circumstances pushed Neil to start jotting down instances of what, in some terms, might be considered guilty pleasures.

Now there is a wealth of thoses thoughts, growing on the web and partially contained in 'The Book of Awesome'.

How is it?

Well, to be honest:  AWESOME
